Rosmann Weed Management Trials
Ron and Maria Rosmann, in
Harlan, Iowa, carried out a trial for four years over two decades examining the effect of tillage system
on yield and weeds in soybeans when herbicides are not used. A difference in broadleafed weeds
as much as ten-fold gave the Rosmanns clear information about which practice best fit their
cropping system. Their study confirms that where herbicides are not use, the
potential for most weeds is higher in conventional tillage than in ridge tillage.
